Arch and Archie

Arch McIntosh (III) has always had a name to live up to. His father, who has the same name, is not only the headmaster at his school, Charlotte Latin, but was also a scholarship college basketball player at both Clemson and Marshall Universities.

Now, the younger Arch, known as “Archie” to most friends, is trying to make a name for himself as a high school and future college football player.

“I think every father who has a son with his namesake is a very special thing,” Arch McIntosh said of his son. “But I have never wanted Archie to be like me, and I don’t expect him to be like me. I’ve always wanted him to be his own person.”

McIntosh, who is 6-foot-3, weighing 225 pounds as a high school senior, started to stand out on his own in Latins’ 2007 state championship team, when as a sophomore, he had 11 sacks from his defensive end position as one of only three sophomore starters.

“He has one of the best motors that I’ve seen here,” Charlotte Latin football coach Larry McNulty said, who also starts Archie at offensive guard. “He always been a high-energy guy who has gotten better and better as a football player every year”.
