Braxton Ogbueze, Vance – March Male Athlete of the Month

At the beginning of this basketball season, Braxton Ogbueze was a solid player on a strong Vance team that was hoping to recover from the loss of two of their best players in point guard Darryl Tranyham (Moved back to Maryland) and shooting guard Jacoby Davis (transferred to West Charlotte). Most experts were expecting highly-touted point guard Marquis Rankin to have to do a lot for his veteran team, who was a major factor in the ME-CA 7 conference and the 4A state playoffs. There weren’t many people thinking about 6-foot sophomore Braxton Ogbueze. Ogbueze had been a solid reserve in his freshman season, spelling Davis, Rankin and Tranyham, and showing potential.But, no expected what would happen. Ogbueze not only good better, but he also became one of the elite players in Charlotte, averaging 20 points, 3.5 rebound and 2.3 assists as Vance again was one of the top teams in the area. Ogbueze, who also boasts a 3.5 grade-point average, has scholarship offers already from South Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.Ogbueze and Rankin (Wake Forest and South Carolina target) will be back again next season, to prove that they are not only two of the best players in Charlotte, but also can lead their team to new heights.
